Calexico are my favorite band. Add in Iron & Wine and this was the best show of 2005 by far. The sound was excellent, and the feel was warm and friendly. When musician's musicians are having fun playing, everybody knows it. The highlight was an extended, all band treatment of "All Tomorrow's Parties". Indeed. This one was based on an image from a cave wall in Nepal that my friend Bob Crifasi photographed on a trek. The 'protector' is a mild demon who keeps the really bad demons at bay... Just like life.
